Your Health Centre can now offer you Physiotherapy treatment in conjunction with Mount Alvernia Hospital’s Physiotherapy Department.

Your treatment, on most occasions can take place here at the Health Centre for your convenience. Please bear in mind that on some occasions dependent on the treatment required, best suited to your needs you may need to have treatment at Mount Alvernia Hospital. Following your first assessment the physiotherapist will be able to advise you what is most appropriate for you.

The Physiotherapists that come to St John’s are experienced Chartered and State Registered Physiotherapists and are committed to a continuing education programme. This ensures that you the patient will receive the most up-to-date techniques and treatment available.

Common Conditions Appropriate for Physiotherapy Intervention:

• Spinal problems e.g. slipped disc, low back pain, whiplash, trapped nerve
• Joint problems e.g. arthritis, frozen shoulder, pre and post surgery
• Soft tissue injuries - involving muscle, ligament, tendons, bruising
• Obstetrics and Gynaecological conditions e.g. bladder and bowel dysfunction, pregnancy related problems, post surgery

Initial Assessment
Your GP has referred you for treatment as he/she feels that you may benefit from Physiotherapy, as this can play a vital part in pain relief, healing and rehabilitation of most musculoskeletal, medical and surgical conditions.

The physiotherapist will assess the nature and site of your problem and will relate it to your whole person and its effect on your lifestyle. After full consultation with you and where appropriate your doctor, the physiotherapist will decide the best form of treatment. This usually involves the usage of a wide range of manual skills, appropriate exercises and electrotherapy equipment e.g. ultrasound.

How am I charged?
The Health Centre has an agreement with Mount Alvernia Hospital to charge a reduced rate for patients who have no medical insurance, the invoice for treatment will be sent directly to you from Mount Alvernia and you should settle your account directly with them. If you have medical insurance then you must first check that your policy will cover physiotherapy treatment, and you may need your doctor to sign your claim form. Your Insurance Company will have already agreed charges with Mount Alvernia, which the Physiotherapy department will inform you of.

How do I arrange an Appointment?
Your GP will forward the referral for your treatment directly to Mount Alvernia Physiotherapy Department who will then get in contact to arrange an appointment or you can contact them directly on 01483 442747/07890 513620.

You do not have to be registered with the surgery to use this service.
